Introduction
- The National Development Plan (2000 - 2006) includes proposals to upgrade the N7 between Portlaoise and Limerick, and the N8 between Portlaoise and Cork to high quality dual carriageway/motorway standard.
- In June 2000 both the proposed N7 and N8 routes were selected by the National Roads Authority (NRA) to be progressed as a Public Private Partnership Scheme. The NRA proposed to publish a Toll Scheme for the project.
- Arup Consulting Engineers were appointed to develop proposals to upgrade
the N7 and N8 routes between Portlaoise and Castletown and Portlaoise and
Cullahill respectively.
How it happens:
A Preferred Route for the M7 between Portlaoise and Castletown and the M8 between Portlaoise and Cullahill has been identified.
Preliminary design of the route commences and an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is prepared.
The Motorway Order and the EIS are the subject of an Oral Hearing held by An Bord Pleanála.
It is anticipated that the land required for the scheme will be acquired by Compulsory Purchase Order which will be published with the EIS.
